Fitting lamps, setting up shelves, painting walls, or sprucing up old furniture. DIY is playing an increasingly important role in many parts of many people’s lives, and interest continues unabated. But how great is the interest? Every year, new trends are discovered and lived. We asked ourselves, what then are the DIY trends of 2019, what excites people the most?
Terms such as “do-it-yourself” and “DIY” have long played a major role in our generation, and the enthusiasm is not waning.
But what exactly is so popular? What goes down particularly well?
We all know that we are very different from the generation of our parents and grandparents. We pay attention to sustainability, we value different things and have a different attitude. This is also evident when it comes to DIY.
Particularly popular: wallpapering, new floors and bathrooms, and finishing individual floors. These are all examples of larger DIY projects that more and more young people are taking on themselves instead of placing orders with companies.

Facts needed about home improvement trends?
- more than 12 million young people know DIY and are enthusiastic about it.
- 25% of men describe themselves as “good DIYers”.

The DIY tasks mentioned above are examples of major
work, important part of DIY and home improvement. However, the largest
part of DIY trends in 2019 is made up of “smaller” DIY jobs.
These include sprucing up old furniture, room decorating, wall decorating, recycling and sprucing up Rooms.
These trends, which will also be among the top next year, reflect our generation pretty well. Preserving and repairing things instead of throwing them away; rediscovering and reinventing old things instead of constantly buying new. Recycling instead of IKEA mania and buying new.
